L.O.T.E. (Italian) at Christ the Priest Primary School is a skills-based curriculum area. Classes are an hour in duration from Prep to Yr. 6, on a fortnightly basis, throughout the scholastic year.
Students learn how to speak, read, spell and write basic words and phrases in Italian. They are also taught formal grammatical skills, through a range of varied activities, including but not limited to interactive learning games, songs, nursery rhymes, folktales, etc.
Through learning Italian our students learn about cultural differences and similarities associated with a language other than English. They understand and make connections with everyday life, their own cultural background, and how cultures are influenced and enhanced, whilst embracing the multiculturalism of Australia.
Learning an additional language strengthens and enhances creative and critical thinking. It also develops new perspectives and helps our students to learn and to live as part of a global community.
